Your External Cladding Choice
When you choose your exterior cladding, it has an impact on the look and performance of the building. Read our easy to follow explanation of which cladding option is best for you, CanExcel, Thermowood or Cedar.
A durable external cladding for a garden room will not just protect the building structure from the elements, but will also protect against other external factors: rot, insects and UV light. So the choice to choose the right cladding for lower maintenance is essential. Cedar is naturally durable, however other cheaper options may require some finishing i.e. Thermowood. Cedar Cladding
Cedar Cladding is a widely used material, is very stable and has a natural finish. When installed, it has a lovely reddish colour and overtime, will silver down to blend in naturally, giving that sense of establishment. You can reduce the amount of silvering by adding an oil that protects it from UV light, either way the finish is beautiful. It also smells great when it rains. Recent supply issues and demand has made Cedar an expensive option, in comparison to other cladding finishes, however it is worth the investment.
Thermowood
This cladding is a heated treated timber which is chemical free and is a sustainably beautiful wood. Less expensive than Cedar, the treatment it undergoes helps prevent the wood from ageing which increases its lifespan. The process removes nutrients that allow rot and fungi to develop, making the finish stand the test of time. Much like Cedar, over time Thermowood will change colour and will look great. As this wood is more readily available, it makes it cheaper to source than Cedar, but not to be overlooked.
CanExcel
CanExel is constructed from a light-weight, high density wood composite that offers the deeply textured look of real cedar. This is the cheapest cladding we offer in the range but definitely not an inferior choice. The cladding comes with a 10 year limited warranty. Similar to Thermowood, CanExel treatment has a 5 stage process and is baked. The outcome is a deep textured finish making this ideal for those who want a very low or no maintenance option for a number of years. Available in 3 great colours: Sierra, Cliffside and Granite.
So whatever your choice, it's never a wrong decision. We have already decided the best options on the market for you to choose from.
